Katie loves when I read to her. We do have quite a few children's books but I am looking for something fun and new. What are some of your favorite children's books? Which ones do you grab off the book shelf and really enjoy reading to your kiddos?
While you're at it, any recommendations for books for older kids? Maybe even ones that you read when you were younger.
I'll share some of our favorites also.
Our favorite books for younger children:
Hats for Sale (interactive--we sometimes get hats to use as we read along)
Monster Mama Loves Me So
Skippy John Jones
Kittens' First Full Moon
Will's favorites:
Cricket in Times Square
Fablehaven
Candy Shop War
Lightening Thief

Riley loves Beatrix Potter lately. Her favorite for almost a year now is Where the Wild Things Are. And one we just found at the library that she has requested over and over is Bootsie Barker Bites. I think she just likes saying the name.
Pingo is great. I just bought it for one of my nieces. It's from the author of the Fabelhaven series, but for a much younger audience.
My personal favorite is Edward Fuddwupper Fibbed Big.
We also like Bad Kitty and Poor Puppy. We read some of Shel Silverstien's poems. and the girls always like those Princess books by disney. ( The dollar store has shorter ones right now.) :)
Chapter books:
For the holidays The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is always fun.
Right now we are going through the Costco Roald Dahl Collection. We are on the Fantastic Mr. Fox.
Charlottes Web,
Current fav. Falling for Rapunzel. Great Rhyming mishap book. "Rapunzel, Rapunzel let down your hair. She thought he said your underwear!" "No, Rapunzel your curly locks. She thought he said your dirty socks!"
I'm not sure for older kids, but one of Scott's favorite is:
I wish that I had Duck feet
My kids love duck on a bike. And the Alexander books - Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day and Alexander, who used to be rich last Sunday. Though I'm not sure Katie would like them!
Has Will read Hatchet? Isaac just read it and he loved it. I promise it isn't as menacing as it sounds!
the paper bag princess, alice the fairy, the little engine that could, make way for ducklings. my friend rabbit.
for will: the lightning thief series is supposed to be very very good, but maybe for slightly older kids? Brady's top choices: Where the Red Fern Grows and Summer of the Monkeys. both by wilson rawls.
oh, also for will, anything by andrew clements
Lady Carolyn hit it right on the nose with Roald Dahl- he is a CLASSIC!!
I also think that the Junie B. Jones series is a fun one- probably for Jane's age. I should peruse through my old teaching books- see what fun stuff I can come up with.
For a younger audience, my favorite authors are Sandra Boynton, Maurice Sendak (go beyond Where the Wild Things Are- Sendak is hilarious!) and good old Dr. Suess. I LOVE that your family is full of readers!
I love all of these suggestions!
Bear Snores on series are one of my favorites. Kayla (7) loves Magic Tree House series and Little House on the Praire. How's the pregnancy coming? You're almost there aren't you- end of January? Have a great Christmas
Audrey
I am almost done! I'm due the 29th but the doctor said he'd induce me in my 39th week if I wanted. So 5 more weeks to go! Yahoo!
